Friends Arena Opens with a few Swedish Moments
Saturday 27 October 2012 saw the grand opening of the Friends Arena in Stockholm which kicked off with a concert celebrating Sweden in the music industry, “Swedish Moments”.
The new National Stadium was declared open by Crown Princess Victoria in front of a packed stadium with a further 1.7 million watching at home. The evening included fantastic performances from a number of notable Swedish artists including Roxette, Danny Saucedo and Loreen.
The opening concert was followed by the inaugural football match on 14 November where a stunning performance from Zlatan Ibrahimovic saw the home team Sweden come away with a 4-2 win over England. The friendly match saw the stadium draw a crowd of 49,967, the team’s biggest attendance in 43 years.
Friends Arena will continue to host the most sought after events over the coming years including Melodifestivalen 2013, Tours from Eddie Izzard, One Direction and Kiss as well as the UEFA Women's Euro 2013 Final.
